3 sounds I don’t miss from vacation:
- “recalculating…” (Nuvi, when we turned the wrong way, on purpose or not)
- car horns honking
- “checking out?” (Valet guys every time we got out our car)
4 sounds I DO miss from vacation:
- room service tables clinking with food
- the homey creaking of the hotel room floor
- the laughter of the boys while playing in the pool
- “Can I get you anything else?” (being waited on is SO nice!)
things that surprised me about D.C.
- the absurd number of foreign cars
- the astounding number of helicopters
- the number of different cab companies (what? Preston pointed out every.single.cab.!)
- how not so very bad the traffic was while we were there and driving
- how far in advance they started to get things ready for the 4th of July celebrations
- how fracking GIGANTIC Arlington National Cemetery is!
- the number of trees!! the greenery was gorgeous, but I had no idea there were SO MANY TREES!
my favorite things about DC:
- The Washington National Cathedral – seriously could have spent ALL day there
- the Lincoln Memorial – wow.
- Seeing in person what I’ve seen in movies and tv shows my whole life.
- how fabulous the architecture is
- being with my guys and laughing a lot
- getting to see N & C’s house and spend time with them
my least favorite things about vacation:
- sweating (holy hell, it was HOT)
- little boys who didn’t want to walk
- sweating
- spending so much money on transportation (lesson were learned, people. Lessons were learned)
- the end
Bottom line, we had a GREAT time. The boys were so awesome, the weather, though warm, wasn’t too bad. We had no issues with directions, people, finding things. I’m amazed at how compact the city actually seemed. Oh, and DC? Where do you hide your homeless? Cuz it’s a big city, they have to be around somewhere!!
I’ll post some pictures (don’t worry, not all 887 of them!) this week. I took a lot, got a lot of good ones, but a lot of ones that weren’t so great (it’s hard to take pictures from that double decker tour bus while it’s moving!!)

I need to visit DC sometime soon, although I think I’ll wait for my kids to be a bit older!

I definitely want to take them back when they can really appreciate it. 🙂
Does your Nuvi sound annoyed at you when she says “recalculating”? We always laugh because we say she sounds irritated that we didn’t go the way she said to…LOL
Amy, she totally sounds annoyed! I always think she is going to send me the wrong way for spite!
