The lovely Amanda over at Tumble Dry writes so well, so perfectly, that her posts about her family generally get me crying (in such a good way!). Today she did it again, but this time, it was a reminder to all of us. Please go read the whole post (and the rest of her blog if you’ve never been!).
Bottom line is that she is smart and wants us all to listen and be present. From her post:
Happiness is a choice is more than a line on a tshirt. It’s just this one life we get. There isn’t a day in it that ever gets experienced in exactly the same way. We must remember to do what we hope, to stay true to aiming for the life that we want, the love, the memories whatever it is.
It is our choice.
It is our price to pay if we don’t.
Who is trying to sing to you right now?
Whose arms did you wiggle out of to do the dishes?
Go listen, kiss and live.
It’s just this one time, make it count.

The boys, Matthew especially, have been very interested all of a sudden in playing games – board games and card games. …
Listen and live
Happy Halloween!
We had a good time tonight, hitting up the people in our neighborhood for free candy. The boys actually walked ALL the way around the hood, though they did moan and groan a little about being tired AND gave up before the end going up to houses. Preston’s costume was a big hit and he wore it most of the time, too!
Pumpkins!
{obligatory}
First, the trip to the pumpkin patch…the boys wanted to buy a hundred pumpkins. In their defense, there were a LOT of really good ones this year! We settled on one for each of us, plus some little ones.
Then, of course, we carved them! Matt actually carved most of his own this year – he was so proud of himself! {me too}
Update!
Ok, so my surgery has been scheduled for 11am tomorrow (with us at the hospital by 9am). Hopefully the earlier surgery means that we will be home at a fairly decent hour tomorrow (I want to be home to recover, not in the hospital!).
I appreciate all good thoughts, juju, mojo, prayers, whatever you’re willing to send out into the universe for me!

Matt went to the doctor this morning – they prescribed a short dose of steroid to get him out of this croupy cough. It will sure be nice to not wake up the sound of a seal barking him coughing.
Preston has a cold, but is still in good spirits, though I can tell he’s sick mostly by his desire to relax in the middle of the day! lol

Today I will make sure the house is somewhat clean, the laundry done and my work caught up as much as possible. Tonight, I will take a shower with Dial (oh, the dry!) and repeat in the morning (seriously, oh, the dry!). No more eating after midnight, no more water after 7am. My dog will be going on a short vacation (to avoid the ever popular jumping all over me issue), and …
