First game of the season yesterday, second game tomorrow! Matt was much more assertive this year (it’s his second year) and Preston was just as tentative as Matt was last year. Fun stuff!
Parenting Conundrum
So… I’ve a bit of a parenting conundrum going on as of today and I am looking for your input!
Matt & Preston are 2 years and 2 weeks apart. Being the oldest, Matt has obviously gotten all of his stuff – toys, clothes, whatever, brand new. Preston, being the second and a boy, has obviously gotten a LOT of hand-me-downs throughout his life. I never minded passing down the clothes or toys…I mean, why not?! The thing is though, the boys are getting to an age where they want (and seem to appreciate) things of their OWN.
Today we brought home Matt’s birthday present (5 days early) – we bought him a new bike. It is totally awesome (pics to follow in a more fun post) and it was time, as he has totally outgrown his old one (had to go from 16″ to 20″!!). Matt loves his bike and rides it all the time. Until recently (read:today), Preston has not had a bike of his own; he’s been more of a use-his-feet or big wheel kind of kid. Apparently, what we assumed was a lack of interest was more a lack of opportunity/availability. As sson as Matt got on his …
Moments without pictures
I found this little note I wrote myself while we were on vacation in DC.

July 1, 2009
Today the boys went to explore an area of the hotel grounds while Mike and I finished our dinner. We were seated in the outside area of the hotel restaurant and it had a beautiful stone stairway down to a fountain and grassy area. There was also a cute little gazebo beyond, plus a few seating areas. It wasn’t far away (literally down some stairs – as if they were in the yard at home and we were on the deck) but my heart clenched a little watching them walk away. Aloud I lamented the fact that they were being so sweet with each other and I didn’t have a camera. Mike oh so gently reminded me that us sitting together, watching our boys was OUR moment and we didn’t need a picture to remind us how sweet they could be, how they really did look out for each other, or to remember the scenery.
Sometimes that husband of mine is just brilliant.

It’s a trampoline!!
Our fabulous friends got the boys a trampoline for Christmas last year and I, for one, have been DYING to put it together and get it into the yard.
We’ve had a fair amount of decent weather, but it’s Michigan, and it’s really not Spring until May…or June…so we’ve been holding off. I was sick of waiting, though, so yesterday, Matt and I made the trek to Sam’s Club and got the enclosure net for it (and about $200 worth of other crap, of course!).
A beautiful and sunny day, it only took a couple of hours to get it fully operational. In no time, the boys were bouncing and laughing and playing. Totally worth the wait.
Later, I got in and did laps with Matt; he chased me and I chased him. And seriously? Who needs a gym with a trampoline in the backyard?!
