Halloween was good this year. The boys both decided on good costumes that weren’t totally terrible to put together / make. (Well, except for Matt’s shirt, which is another story, OY)
Preston was a Wizard – I made his robe, which turned out well, but I will never, ever work with tissue lame again. That stuff practically frays if you look at it wrong!! He picked out a hat at a halloween store, and improvised with a Harry Potter wand (that was so annoying we took the batteries out!!)
Matthew decided on Indiana Jones. The pants, boots, jacket, hat & whip were all really easy! The shirt? Ugh. It was nearly impossible to find a button down shirt that fit the costume idea. I even tried to dye a white one! The first time it turned out peach and the second time? Dark brown but with purple undertones!! Mike found a waffle knit henley and we went with it. I made his satchel out of some felt and spare fabric I had around.
Trick or treating was great this year – the kids were all good, the weather was damn near perfect, and we had more neighbors/friends …
Candy & Carving
Snow Day!
With the country-wide snowpacalypse the other night, the boys obviously did not have school yesterday. Late in the afternoon, they finally got bored enough to head outside. Sadly, the snow wasn’t good packing snow, so no forts or snowmen or even real snowballs, but we had some fun anyway. Turns out in the absence of a sledding hill, snow covered steps work well!!
Be back later
My favorite cousins are in town…there is much laughing and dancing and being silly; talking and squishing the newest addition to the family; living and enjoying and wishing we did this more often.
There is just this…A wonderful happiness, a big ol celebration and the promise of Zingermans and more laughter.
I’ll see you all next week. have a fabulous weekend.
Ice Skating
My brother and I took the boys ice skating for the first time today. I hadn’t had ice skates on for YEARS, so not only did they feel weird, I was a bit wobbly! I did alright on the ice, but was thankful my brother is a good skater so he could help out the boys!
We rented skates and I made sure we took their bike helmets (totally afraid they would fall and thunk their heads!).
Matt jumped right on the ice with his little skate-walker thing, and although he seemed like he was running on the ice rather than skating, he did really well! Preston had the technique better, but didn’t move around very much. I fully expected him to be done sooner than Matt and I wasn’t surprised (but that was ok, because I was ready to get my skates off, too!).
Matt wanted to stay out there forever! We definitely will be taking him back. By the end, he was much more comfortable on the ice and in the skates.
I took some video of them, but I’m still working on getting it edited, so here are some pictures!
