Sleeping over

August 5, 2011 · 10 comments

My boys aren’t home tonight. Today, my brother came to pick them up and take them back to his house for some boys night out shenanigans.  Last weekend, they were at my MIL’s for overnight and a day at the lake. Prior to that, my mom’s house.  And it’s not just over nights – they did an adventure with Miss Molly the other night and were gone for hours!

It’s so nice to have people that we love and trust taking the boys on adventures and sleepovers. Now that they are older, it’s not as big of a deal.  I used to be so worried about them being away from me at night. What if they couldn’t sleep or had a bad dream? Would they remember to brush their teeth and pee?

Now, they apparently go to bed much easier away from home than they do at home! They go to bed on time, they brush their teeth, they use their manners.

Of course, I miss them and am so happy when they come home safely, but it’s <shifty eyes> kind of nice when they are away for a few hours or overnight! It’s not for any reason…I know they’re safe and happy, and we get some quiet down time. Tonight, we randomly went to dinner and then came home and watched tv together. Nothing fancy or exciting, just time together.

I’ll sleep better without them here, oddly, because they won’t be loud in their room(s) or waking me up because they need their covers fixed.

I’m not sure if this is what it was like before we had kids (don’t remember!), but since they’re only gone for a day at a time, I’m liking it!

Oh, kid-free nights are the best. I have zero guilt over mine going to nana’s house for a night or a week. I hope you got some good rest and are rejuvenated!

My two girls have been at their grandparents this week – not childless, but it makes a big difference to only have 1! Hope you enjoyed!

I actually can’t wait for this. I have yet to leave my 9-mo old overnight or for any real length of time actually. We have a wedding to attend in Boston in November and my husband is in the wedding party. I’m going to have to find somewhere to stash these kids! I’m looking forward to it!
