Another day at the hospital

(11:18am)

Here we sit, waiting room in the Ambulatory Surgical Facility at St. Joe’s. Preston is in the back, being operated on and we’re passing time playing on iPhones and computers and talking to the most fabulous nurse ever.

Preston has been great through this whole thing so far – he got into his fishy pjs (gown) and got a bracelet for himself and for Mr. Bear; smiled through having his blood pressure checked and through having an X marked on his belly. He giggled here and there and was goofy when we put his hat on.

But when they started to wheel him away his mouth turned down and the tears started to form and that? SUCKED. I know he was asleep in moments and I know he’s not in any pain and in the best hands possible, but he’s not with me. And the waiting sucks.

(12:20pm)Preston is out of surgery and Dr. P said he did great! Now we just have to wait for him to wake up so we can see him!

(1:05pm) FINALLY!!! Recovery room time. My poor baby is so messed up! I know that it’s such a tough experience waking up from anesthesia, but man, he’s goofy and mad and exhausted. Trying not to laugh at him, but when the kid starts crying that he is upset that he can’t sit up and play on the iPad right out of surgery, you can’t help it.

(2:10pm) P fell back asleep for awhile, and then we were able to go to his room. It was a long walk, so the nurse and I got some exercise at least!

Preston has been on and off, in and out all day, but he finally fell asleep about 7:30 and I’m hoping he stays that way for awhile (although he DID just ask me to turn up the tv with his eyes completely closed! hehe).

He was doing well, pain wise, until we made him get up to pee a few times. He’s having a hard time putting weight on his right leg, but that’s normal. He’s been peeing a TON, and while they did finally turn his IV down, I really think they could turn it off (besides, it’s making the most annoying freaking clicking sounds!!)

He really wants to just go home this time…me too. But, we should be home tomorrow, and since they can manage his pain pretty well tonight, I think it’s probably for the best.

Just wait until he finds out his restrictions…things are NOT going to be pretty around here.

Glad it went well.

KayTar has been under general so many times and I’m so glad she handles it well. She wakes up like nothing ever happened.

About the IV thing, I feel your pain. One night in the hospital, KayTar kept peeing THROUGH her diapers, but they still wouldn’t turn it off…protocol and all that.
