My evening in pictures

November 26, 2008 · 2 comments

I was going to do this whole Night Before Thanksgiving thing, but honestly, I’m pretty tired and the words and rhymes just aren’t coming to me.

I’ve been cleaning pretty much non-stop all day.  It’s funny – the weeks and days leading up to an event at our house fill me with panic and excitement at how much I can get done and cleaned.  In general, there are lofty goals (replace the shelf above the fireplace, wash windows, etc.).

At the beginning of the week, there were plans for the carpets to be cleaned throughout the house, all the rooms to be spic and span, etc.

By the time this afternoon rolled around, the main floor was pretty well spotless and the boys rooms fairly clean.  The front room and family room carpets were cleaned.  I cleaned the laundry room and vacuumed our room.  Meh. Good enough!

My room is still a mess, our bedroom a disaster (well, minus the vacuumed floor) and the shelf? Still looks like it may fall off any second. Since you can see our bedroom from the family room (we have this mid-level master thing going on), I’ll just shut the door (Which I totally never do!).

I always let things slide the closer we get; you’d think I would stop trying to get so much done, but I guess a girl has to have goals!!

Anyway, since the oven will be filled for many hours with the 27 pound ostrich turkey tomorrow, I did my baking tonight.  This year, I made mini pumpkin bread loaves and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies.  YUM!  I still have a dip and Green Stuff to make, but those are quick and easy.

Family arrives around 1 tomorrow, and we’ll be feasting around 2.  Everyone is bringing something, so that takes some pressure off.

Tomorrow I’ll post pictures of the turkey.  It’s Mike’s baby – he is the turkey king around here and he does it well.

So to all of my American friends, Happy Thanksgiving!! and to all of my Canadian friends, Happy Thursday!!!
