I Vant to Bite Your Neck…mwahaha

Damned if I’m not stuck on this vampire thing.

First those Twilight Books (and I still maintain I will NOT like the movie since not a one of the characters lives up to my imagination of what they look like or how they sound).

And now Sookie Stackhouse.  HBO has made a series of the Sookie Stackhouse Novels by Charlaine Harris called TrueBlood.  While the novels are fairly graphic and descriptive, the show takes it to a whole new level.  I watched one episode and then picked up the books (I’m on the 5th one) and have enjoyed them a lot.  The show? Well, there’s a lot of sex. I mean, seriously, it’s pretty much soft porn (um..not that I’ve ever seen porn, I mean….OW! My eyes, my eyes!!!!)  🙂

Anna Paquin plays Sookie, the telepath.  I like her southern character and accent; it’s wierd to see her in a role like this, but it works.  But the rest of the cast?  Well, they took some liberties.  As they always do when the take a book to the screen, but this is why I have issues.  I mean, if the book is so good that someone wants to make a movie or tv show about it, WHY can’t they just follow the book?  I get that imaginations or visions of people in specific are hard to keep consistent, but when an author does such a superb job of describing a character, would it kill them to TRY to do it right??

The thought of vampires and shape-shifters and weres and witches and fairies, living amongst the humans?  Very interesting indeed….

I’ll give the show a couple more tries (assuming I can find episodes 3 & 4 somewhere), and I definitely finish the book series.  As for the Twilight movie? Well, I’m sure I’ll watch it eventually, but I won’t be happy about it!

OMG I could just kiss you for saying what I have been saying about the movie characters for Twilight. I think casting got it ALL WRONG on this one. Everytime I see the guy who plays Edward, all I can see is Cedric Diggory from Harry Potter…that’s who he played in the HP films before he was killed off.

And seriously, HBO made a series out of the Sookie Stackhouse books? Hmmm, I’ll have to look into those. Love the books. As far as soft porn though, Charlaine Harris ha NOTHING on Laurell Hamilton and her Anita the Vampire Slayer books. PORN-o-RAMA! Oiy!

Great post!

Love the Twilight books as well and wonder if the movie will even come close. But they rarely do, so I am sure I will be disappointed. Sounds like I’m so missing out on not having HBO, we have EVERY other fricking channel! Think I might have to pick up the TrueBlood books though!

You are so right. The movies or shows aren’t usually as great as the book for me too. I’m always surprised by who casting people choose and think, “Did they not read the book? I would have NEVER gone with that person.”
