Fondue & Orchard lovin

I took my staff out to dinner last night to (a) celebrate our doctor’s return and (b) have a staff meeting. [FYI: I am a freaking awesome boss]

We went to the Melting Pot. If you’ve never been and there’s one near you, do yourself a favor and try it! It was not only super yummy, but it was a truly unique and fun experience.

Since we were Melting Pot virgins, we were a bit overwhelmed at how the while thing worked; luckily we had a fabulously funny, witty and smart waitress who explained it all to us.

Basically, you get to choose your cheese for the cheese course (they provide 3 kinds of bread, veggies and apples), then you pick your salad, then you choose your meats/seafood and method of cooking (oil or broth), and then you choose your chocolate. It’s a ton of food and ever so yummy!!!!!

The meeting part went pretty well, too.  I mean as far as staff meetings go with my staff.  I’m trying a new program with them to try to get them to work more as a team and less as a “she never does this and that and she won’t do that and I’m tired of her not knowing how to do this!” whiny, crying, sad little group.  It might work.  It might not.  But we’ll try it and see. If it doesn’t, we’ll try something else.  It’s imperative to me that my little staff is a well-oiled machine, but one person always ruins it, and unfortunately, it’s always the same person.

Earlier in the day, Matt had his first field trip and I was a Parent Chaperone for the first time!! I had a group of 5 kids to keep track of getting out of the school, onto the bus, at the orchard and back to school .  And I only lost one!!

Ok, I didn’t really lose her…it was Madison from next door and she went with another group to see the animals while the rest of us went to the bathrooms. I knew exactly where she was!  She was reprimanded by me, and I told on her (to her dad, LOL).

It was the same orchard we went to last year with the preschool, so I knew where we were and what the game plan was, which made it a lot easier.  We got to do the wagon ride, pick an apple apiece and have cider and a donut (yum!!)  By the time we got back on the bus, you could tell the kids were getting tired…the noise level was reduced by about 70% from the way there.  🙂

(Totally dorky picture of Matt & Madison on the wagon ride)

It was fun and I would definitely be a Chaperone again.  I’m trying to be involved in the school and am even going to get to the next PTO meeting (gasp!) and help with the next fundraiser.  It’s funny that I thought I was busy before, just with having two kids.  Now with one in school and soccer? It’s crazy!! And then Preston is going to get into stuff, too?  Phew.  I’m exhausted just thinking about it!!  Perhaps I’ll get back to my scrapbooking in about 10 years or so?

In other news, I told my mom about my dad’s upcoming prostate cancer surgery and she immediately started to cry.  I’m not sure I’ll ever, ever, ever understand.  They were married for 13 years, both SO young, but they’ve been divorced for over 30 years!!  I’m sure I’ve talked about it here before, but I swear, every time I think things are fading, disappearing, becoming normal between/about them, something comes up and it’s like twenty steps backward.  They have the oddest non-relationship; neither of them can let go and I just don’t get it.  And honestly, I’m not trying anymore, since it’s obviously beyond my comprehension!!  She said she had to hang up the phone because she needed to stop crying before her current husband (of 14 years!) came in and wondered why she was crying about her ex-husband.

SIGH.

Tomorrow we’re going with the neighbors to play some golf (uh, it’s October and it’s our 2nd time?! = JUNK).  Should be a good time as long as the cruddy cough and cold that my men all have/had doesn’t get to me before we get in 18.

The Melting Pot sounds like great fun! I wish there was one closer than MA! I hate driving down there! *lol*

Love the Orchard photo! Not dorky at all, pure sunshiny cuteness!

*hugs* re: your folks. That has to be so hard.

Fondue sounds great, alas there isn’t one in NH. I may just have to cross the border to MA to check it out.

Sorry about the difficulties with your mom. As if the cancer wasn’t hard enough to deal with already.

catnips last blog post..so, it looks a little different around here

you know, there’s just a range of emotions with divorce. i keep waiting for the year to pass that i won’t find something striking a chord or creating a tear. i hope it doesn’t last 30 years.

The Melting Pot is my FAVORITE restaurant. I love it so much. You’re an awesome boss.

YEah, I’m much more busy now that my kids are older and involved in things. It’s just crazy!
