Not a boy scout

(their slogan is “always be prepared” right?)

Matt had a soccer game scheduled this morning as well as pictures to be taken. Given that the weather radar was green with spots of yellow and red, we (wrongly) assumed we would go to the field, get the pictures taken and head back home. I mean, the field was bound to be a mass of mud and watery mess since it had been raining steadily since midnight. And the kids are little! Who makes five year old kids play soccer in the middle of a rain destined to refill lakes and ponds statewide?!

Apparently, our soccer group does.

I decided to run home to get another umbrella and some raincoats (unfortunately, I did not think to grab extra clothes or towels. (What? I was thrown off by having to drive Mike’s car – it’s a stick and I’m about 12 years out of practice!!) Live and learn, I guess.  Next rain game, I will be ON it. hehe.

The coach was a bit annoyed by the weather, and we were all a little concerned, but the kids seemed to love it.  It was as hilarious as their first game.  Matt was having so much fun, at one point he found himself down field all alone. Without the ball.

But he did do better today going after the ball (even if he is afraid of being kicked or knocked over or something).

Preston had fun for awhile, but then he was pretty soaked and tired of being in the rain. So we went and sat in the car for the last few minutes of the game. This picture cracks me up.

All in all, they had a good time, and I honestly thought it was even funnier than the first game. At one point a kid was crying in the net and when all the kids were coming toward him with the ball and he was crying and hiding behind the post? They all stopped and stared for a few seconds, stunned that he wasn’t enjoying the mud and rain. I couldn’t stop laughing!! (Poor kid).

Very cool pictures, is this what I have to look forward to, hahaha!

Matt looks a lot like you and Preston look a lot like Mike… just my observation. I’ve been meaning to tell you that, just keep forgetting. What do you think?

We’ve gotten a crazy amount of rain today. Of course we’ve been having a drought practically all summer, and it picks the weekend I chose for Stephanie’s baptism to down pour, oh well! I guess we’ll be partying in the basement, instead of outside!!!!

Oh, I bet the kids did have a blast! As for the parents that had to take the muddy kids home in their cars, probably not so much!
