birth day, take 2

July 8, 2008 · 5 comments

Ok, so my cousin’s son didn’t make it into the world before midnight – it was 3:11am!  Mom and son are doing well, big sisters are happy, daddy so proud.  He’s adorable and I can’t wait to meet him!! Oh, and he’s got the best name – strong, manly, solid, gonna-be-a-really-smart,-rich-guy kind of name.

The funny thing about this birth was that we are more connected (electronically and emotionally) than we were for her daughters’ / my sons’ debuts into the world. This time I got text message updates throughout the night (which was nice since MY son was up ALL NIGHT screaming and my phone was on my nightstand), and I got word about how she was doing right away this morning.  Then tonight, after demanding asking for a picture or an update since the baby was 15 hours old ALREADY, I got pictures and an update! See, technology is good!!

Now I get to send presents!! hehe

The boys and I had lunch with my mom today.  Now that she works in my area, we really do get to see her more often and it is nice to be able to call and say HEY! Let’s do lunch! and not have to drive to another state to do so.  She and Bo have also been taking the boys places and they are getting such joy from it (both kids and adults).  I am so pleased with this development in their growth and our parenting – that they are finally comfortable enough away from us to not even look back as they drive away; not to mention I know mom and Bo get a huge kick out of spending time with them alone, on their turf or places of their choice.

Geez, I guess this means sleepovers, during which the boys actually sleep somewhere other than our house, are next! Eek!!  Yeah, right, they don’t sleep at home! Actually, it would be just our sleep-deprived-for-5-years-luck that they would sleep like little angels at someone else’s house!!

We’re working on possibly, maybe, hopefully taking a few days and going to Chicago with the boys before the summer is over.  Matt loves the “big city” (even though he’s never been to one) and Preston is pretty easy going (and loves traffic and all things cars), and since they didn’t get to go to NYC with us and we know they would love it, we’re thinking Chi-Town might be the way to go.  And they seem to have a ton of awesome places to take the kids.  We’re close enough to drive (or take the train??), so it’s just really the hotel that we have to figure out. And when.  And what to do with the dogs….

And now, for a new feature on my blog! My daily lifestyle change entry! As I mentioned yesterday, I am working on making small changes. Day 2 and I’m pleased. I can and will do better, but hey, a girl has to start somewhere! It took me 5 years to get this out of shape and fat, I’m sure (sadly) that it won’t come off overnight. Besides, nothing else has really worked for me, so small changes it is!!

Good Things I Did Today:

  • More water intake
  • Less Coke intake (2 compared to normal 4+)
  • Salad for lunch (and I SO could’ve eaten a lot worse since we were at Cracker Barrel! Mmm…gravy…)
  • No bad snacks ALL day! (not even a cupcake when the boys had one! go me!)

Not So Good Things from Today:

  • No Wii Fit or walk (although I did chase the boys around REI and bought a Camelbak for future exercising!)
  • Chinese food for dinner
  • Not as much water as I could have/should have

Stay tuned as I share the most mundane details of my life with you! C’mon, you know it’s a nice break from all of those superbly written, big-worded, well thought out, brain working blogs!

A few tips on the water- fill a 32 oz bottle and take it everywhere with you. Fill at least twice a day. I have one at work and end up drinking 2 bottles by the end of lunch! Or, try to just chug 8-16oz before each meal. Like seriously chug it. You’ll get all your water in and you’ll feel less hungry. I’m amazed at how much water I drink daily (usually about 100 oz) just doing this.

Glad baby made it finally and everyone is doing okay!

It is all about the small changes, do what you can when you can and you’ll be healthier for it!! Way to go!

I guess your mom is bringing the boys for a “playdate” next Tuesday at Renee’s. Tell them to prepare to wrestle. Delaney is the newest brute on the block!

Congratulations on your new family addition… what is this Wii Fit everyone keeps talking about? I’m intrigued. But not enough to actually do anything about it. I’ve grown attached to my fat rolls. They’re soft and smooshy.
