Easter at our house

Well, the day is done. The boys are finally winding down, the family is on their way home, darkness is falling. And I’m blogging about it (Hi JJ!). 😀

The Easter Bunny left baskets and eggs for the boys – cars and candy and fun stuff. And then with each guest arrival, they got more. Two egg hunts in one day! In fact, self-named “Easter Matt” is doing his own egg hunt as I type. He tells me where he is hiding the eggs and then we have to find them. Seriously, how can he not be in bed at this point? I’m ready!

The day was nice…you know, in that loud kid, adults talking, dishes clattering kind of family way. It was the first time I’d seen everyone since Ryan’s surgery and I had a little bit of a chance to chat with him about how he’s doing and what is going on. Unfortunately, we were interrupted by his need-to-control-everything dad <rolleyes>. He looks good and aside from the very large scar on his noggin, he looks no worse for the wear. Except he has hair, which is weird since he’s been bald for years. And I could tell he’s a bit worn down from the stress of his diagnosis and treatment (and fatherly interference). I feel bad, because it seems to me that all my cousin wants to do, all he needs to do and be is what he worked so hard to become. And he can’t. And I would give pretty much anything to have the power to make him well enough to put on his firefighter gear and go out and do what he was called to do.

Alas, I cannot. All I can do is be here if he needs me; be here as a sounding board for the rest of the family; be here, hoping and praying and blogging that he beats this thing and gets to go back to being who he is.

My cousin’s kids are flippin adorable and it was great to have them over. Matt had such a good time playing with Mackenzie – they were even wrestling at one point, which was hilarious! She’s so petite and she completely had Matt down on the floor; they were laughing so hard I’m surprised one of them didn’t pee their pants! I took some great pictures I’ll get uploaded tonight.  I’m not sure, but I think her youngest was giving my sister-in-law uterus pangs. lol.

Mike has tomorrow off; Matt has the week off.  We have no plans as of yet.  Matt has mentioned the gym (should), the museum (could), Jungle Java (could) and the mall (maybe). So we’ll see.  We very well may spend it playing with cars and doing art and science projects, scrapbooking or watching tv.   Or maybe we’ll do it all and put the truthiness rumors of my lazy parenting to rest. 😉

Anyway, Happy Easter! Hope your day was filled with as much religion/candy/eggs/family/chocolate as you needed or wanted.

Sounds like a great Easter to me! We had a great Easter with a bunch of friends and a cookout to end the evening. I am keeping your cousin in my prayers that he can be able to return to the man he is made to be! I think even if you stay home tomorrow and do a bunch of nothing/playing/tv/video games/scrapbooking/anything else at home possible, it wouldnt be lazy, it would be a nice day of family/quiet time. Unwind from today! Happy Easter Dawn, sounds like you had a great one!

I am feeling for your cousin. I have some firefighters in our family and if they couldn't work doing what they loved, it would be VERY hard on them.
