Reading to Preston

Preston is very consistent when it comes to reading books before bed. There are 3-4 regulars, and depending on how awake he really is, a request for various others. We always read, in no particular order,

  • Goodnight Moon
  • Time For Bed
  • The Big Red Barn

Always.
Tonight, he decided to read the letters of the words of Goodnight Moon along with me. Here is a sample of my brilliant 2-year old’s letter recognition <GRIN>. By the 6th page, I was rolling my eyes and wishing he had no desire to know his alphabet! (kidding, just kidding!)

The sentence is: Goodnight moon.
Preston points to the sentence and says: o – e – a – l – e – l – o – o – e
Uh. Ok….got a couple right there…

Another sentence: And goodnight to the old lady whispering hush
Preston points to the sentence and says: a – e – o – o – l – e – d – l – d – a – o – e
Hmm….

Yet another sentence (yes, he did this through the whole book, but I will spare you….although, no one spared me, so…hehe)
Goodnight nobody
d – o – e – l – d – l – o – e – a – e
Yup. Got my work cut out for me. :D

In other news, Matt has taken on the challenge of dressing himself these days. He thinks it’s fun! I think it’s hilarious that he picks out comfy (sweat) pants every single day. But hey, it’s winter and cold and frankly, it’s one less thing I have to do. And I’m lazy. Two years ago, heck, one year ago, I never would have let him wear sweatpants every day. I love little boys in jeans and that’s what they always wore. But then came potty training and those adorable little jeans are a pain in the butt when it comes to getting to the potty on time without accidents. And putting himself back together after going? Fuhgettaboutit! And I have to admit that his independent bathroom use has been greatly advanced due to the comfy pants. Yea comfy pants!! :P

I second that. Comfy pants are a must! In the beginning of potty training my daughter just wore underwear around the house because it was too complicated, pulling up underwear and pants, but now she\'s a pro at both. But I do tend to make sure the pants are easy for her to get up herself, therefore she doesn\'t wear jeans much, maybe when we go out.

That\'s good Preston is started to recognize letters already, having a big brother helps, I\'m sure. We are still working on colors and shapes. Every letter is E to my daughter. I\'m not going to attempt letters until the summer.
