Had family Christmas at my dad’s today. Actually, a story about this one, but alas, my laptop is just about out of power and the cord is downstairs…it’s late, but I promise to fill you in on selfish gifts, absurd behavior, a wind storm and pizza instead of turkey!
Ah, the holidays!!Â
One down….
With apologies to Mr. Moore
Twas the night before the night before the night before Christmas
When all through the house
The only creature stirring was mama,
Who wanted to get soused
The clothes were all hung in the closet with care
In hopes that the laundry fairy soon would be there
The boys and the husband were nestled in beds
While visions of who knows what (probably butts)
Danced in their heads
With mama in her comfy cozy clothes
And the dishes all done,
It was time to relax and have some fun
When down in the kitchen, the dog made a noise
Probably destroying ‘nother one of her toys
Mama stayed on her ass, rolling her eyes
While dreading the unavoidable little boy cries
The twinkling lights on the deck down below
Gave proof to the fear of all-melted snow
When what to her wondering head should occur
That no presents had yet been wrapped
It was all up to her
More rapid than heartburn her list did come
As she listed the names in her head one by one
Two moms and three dads and a stepmonster too,
The boys and the neighbors and a niece and nephew
Two cats and two dogs, the husband and more
She glanced at her man as he continued to snore
And then in a moment, she tried not to laugh
At the silly …
Still here
I’ve been about to blog about 10 times since I last did, but something keeps coming up.
Generally, it’s in the form of “MOM!”  “MOMMY!!” “HEY, MOM???”
I’ve been crafting and sewing and making movies. Matt had his preschool Christmas concert (yes, I have video!). We went to Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village, made Christmas cookies and have been shopping a number of times. We’ve looked at lights and sang songs. We’ve watched Christmas movies. We ARE Christmas!
And in the spirit of that, we’re heading out to see Santa today. Â And wrap presents.
Tomorrow – dinner (at lunchtime) at my dad’s house and possibly dinner (at dinner time) with the neighbors, as well as some grocery shopping.
But now, I must go. Apparently, blogging in this house is next to impossible. Maybe later…..
Snow, cookies and sewing
We have a ton of snow. Over 6 inches – closer to 10, maybe? Anyway, it’s a lot of snow. This morning, we bundled ourselves and the boys up and headed out to clear and play. The neighbors came out as well, and fun was had by all. Well, until Matt suddenly got very cold and cranky and ready to come in. Unfortunately, the snow wasn’t very good for building Frosty, but the stuff from the bottom that the snowblower pulled up was good chunks for snowballs.
After we came in we started the Christmas cookie extravaganza! Yum. Still some cookies to be made and for whatever reason, my chocolate chip cookies turned out horribly. I’ve been making them my whole life, but for some reason this time I screwed them up royally. Or my oven did. Or it was the butter or the moon or the snowfall….either way, must remake.Â
I’ve been doing a lot of sewing lately – I bought my own sewing machine a couple of weeks ago for a project. I’ve also been doing some other crafts…sadly, I am unable to share anything more with you, as a few things are gifts and are going to …
Peace on Earth
I love this commercial.
A message board I used to frequent had long discussions about this commercial – how it “glamorized disposable diapers” and how those “poor little babies were all alone in their cribs”. I’m all for the natural lifestyle, but really? It’s a commercial, and a sweet one at that. Those were the days when I would question my mothering skills and wonder if I was doing the right things. But then one day it hit me. We all have to do what’s best for our own family. Soon thereafter, I stopped visiting that place. It got me all worked up and worried and I realized I didn’t need it. I still visit sometimes, just to see what’s going on, but now I roll my eyes and click the little x when something annoys me.
And speaking of doing what we have to do… here’s my wee one last night. I was petrified I was going to wake him with the flash, but it was worth it.
