Speechless

Since I’m blogging every day for a month, I wanted to have something “real” instead of just boring life details to post at least a few times a week. So I will be posting a question (or more) in hopes of creating some conversation and comments. Please feel free to let me know what you think. 🙂

Today’s Topic: The desire to be “green” vs. healthy. While sickness has plagued the house of Phenomenal Goodness this past week, I’ve been thinking about health vs. environment.

For example, we use a regular glass in our bathroom regularly, but is it better to use those little disposable cups to avoid the spread of germs when there is sickness afoot? Is it more or less wasteful to keep washing our glass over and over?

These days, handkerchiefs are few and far between, especially in the younger generations, but thinking back to when my boys were little, we used a ‘burp cloth’ (thin cloth diaper) to wipe and re-wipe all the time. Kleenex are obviously the more obvious and healthy choice, but how environmentally friendly is that?

And finally, I seriously love those Clorox disinfecting wipes – use them in my kitchen and bathrooms all the time, but that creates a bit of waste as well. Sponges, however, tend to trap germs and then spread them around. So which is better?

Of course, it’s easy to say, how much waste could a week of kleenex or wipes create? But if ALL of us are saying that…well, therein lies the problem, eh?

What do you think? Any tried and true remedies, ideas, suggestions?

[Thus ends the thought-provoking portion of our post] 😉

Today brought a pilgrimage to the all mighty and wonderful IKEA. Man, I love that place. And when it comes to putting stuff together, I seriously rock.

On the way to the big I, we stopped at Home Depot and Lowes to find some carpet for the basement. We were looking for cheap squares…we found nothing. So we went to BD’s Mongolian Grill to get some food and much need energy to face the crowds. IKEA was crazy, as most Saturday afternoons there are. Luckily, I found everything I was looking for (and then some) and the guys hung in there pretty well.

I headed right down to the basement when we got home while my men started the assembly process (insert Tim Taylor grunting here). I took some before and during pictures and will post those…well, when I get a moment. In the meantime, it’s coming along quite nicely. The fabric is hung on the walls, a carpet we had down there spread in a new spot, and some cool organizers in place. The movement of toys to the right spots and a clean out of the playroom to stock the basement play area will happen tomorrow.

I’m almost afraid they’re going to like the play area too much and I’m going to be forced to go down there more than I want! Eek!!

ETA: For any of you curious about today’s blog title, I totally had some lines written in my head about how my voice still comes and goes, and has been mostly gone today – ergo, speechless.  But I screwed it up and didn’t change the title…so there ya go.  <rolleyes at self>

yeah, I\'m totally not a germ freak, and I definitely am a washer, aside from those clorox wipes. I despise the amount of trash we produce and am constantly trying to figure out how to reduce.
