The technology-hates-me-day

Today was my first day of having a babysitter, getting to go to work and Matt having preschool all in one day. My plan was simple (ha!): pick up payroll, stop at drugstore for emergency cat food rations and prescriptions, grab a coffee and get to work. Bills to pay, insurance to process, mail to go through…busy busy busy!! It started well enough.

And then I tried to turn on my computer.

Hello?? Orange glowing light, sound of system being on but no system. Nothing. Unplug, replug, unplug, replug, hit, kick, yell. Nothing.

No computer in my office = not knowing what the heck to do with myself. I was able to use the front computers in between patients, but it just wasn’t mine!! Stupid non-mac computer.

Break time! Go pick up Matt from home, take to preschool. He was very excited about his 3rd day and wanted to leave as soon as I got home. So we went. And there was no power. Matt wanted to stay anyway, as they have huge windows and no dark corners. Back to work I went.

And I began the process of trying to register for online billing for one of our insurance companies. Argh! First they needed a suffix code. After 10 minutes of trying every code we could think of, I called, so that I could wait 10 minutes on hold to find out that the code was 0123. If only I had tried more random numbers…

Get registered nearly registered only to find out that my email address isn’t valid because they already have it on file. Er, duh? Rather than call back, I decide to make an additional email address…should’ve taken 2 seconds, but since technology hates me today, it took 10 minutes.

Finally, I get it all set up – verification email, blah, blah, blah. Close everything out, shut internet explorer down. Go to show the staff how to log in and blam! I’m already logged in. But I can’t get anywhere. Try clearing history. Try restarting. Try logging in. Again. And again. No luck. So I have to call AGAIN. 10 minutes later, after getting a snotty customer service agent telling me that I must not have logged out (REALLY?), she says she’ll have a supervisor log out for me.

By then, I have to leave to get Matt from school. <sigh>  Now I have to see if the wise and wonderful one can resurrect my stupid computer so I can work in my office again.  If not, I’ll have to replace yet another computer this year.

That does not sound like an easy day. I hate, hate, hate computer issues. We are PC at work and Mac at home. I loathe PCs.
