Of toys and staff issues

Today K and I had a very long discussion about our staff and what exactly we’re going to do about them.  See, the problem is that G has been able to get away with a lot of crap, a lot of not doing her job fully for sooo long that it’s probably going to be a little bit of an issue to get her to change.  She is the very definition of passive-aggressive {Of, relating to, or having a personality disorder characterized by habitual passive resistance to demands for adequate performance in occupational or social situations, as by procrastination, stubbornness, sullenness, and inefficiency.}.  She’s good with patients (although she thinks she is entitled to help every single one) and she is loyal.  But really, she makes more work for the other girls and lately, for whatever reason, I’m sick of it.

Of course, everyone has their good attributes and their bad ones – most we just deal with for our sanity and peace in the workplace.  Apparently though, when K and I aren’t around? There is mass power struggle (uh, duh, none of you have power, so quit it) and it makes Doc annoyed and uncomfortable.

And of course, all of it brought up my guilt of if I were in the office more, I could keep a better handle on all of this and they would behave better and business would be better and patients would be happier.  Which of course leads to the but then the boys would have to be in daycare or with a babysitter more often than not and since I don’t have to do that, why would I give up my time with them? Which of course leads to but I have a responsibility to the office that I still haven’t finished paying off….  well, you get the idea, I’m sure.  A vicious cycle of business owner-mama guilt.

So, staff meetings will occur – soon and with vigor.  :)  Group and individual.  And if they’re lucky, I’ll ply them with drinks and dinner.

I set out to get some things for P today – he’ll be 2 on Saturday and a party and large amount of cake will be had. He’s into all things that move – planes, trains, cars and such.  So guess what he’s getting?  Coloring books and crayons!! hehe, just kidding.  There are a number of things that I want to get him (multiple laps around toys r us will do that to ya), but since we are having a party, I am showing an amazing amount of restraint.  Well, that and our desire to live with a lot less debt.

Tomorrow we head out to get some party supplies and Matt wants to spend his birthday money.  In the meantime, I’m having a hard time keeping my eyes open!

Oh, and an update on the toys give away?  A box has been set aside for my lovely cousin’s daughters full of things that go. The boys are none the wiser and will not be.  Mwahahahaha!!  Although a slight glitch – Matt brought up a jack-in-the-box that seriously scared the crap out of him when he first got it from the basement and then asked “Can we keep all the stuff from when I was a baby?”

CRAP!  I shall have to be stealth-like in my purging.

Goodness, girl. You are sounding like my aunt who managed my uncle\'s practice for many, many stress filled years—staff always being at the head of issues! For what it\'s worth, a good babysitter for 10-12 hours a week so you can get some work done hasn\'t seemed to have produced too many negative effects around the casa de madness…

managing and directing people is some of the most challenging stuff in the world. when it works it works, when it doesn\'t i feel like a failure. it\'s hard and enriching stuff. i think they are lucky to have you.

i am oh-so-familiar with the stealthy toy removal procedure.
