I’m BAAACCKKKK!

😀 Howdy, ya’ll, I’m back!! I had such a lovely weekend. I was a little tentative at first, spending the weekend with 4 people I’d never met before, but they were all wonderful! My cousin is very lucky to have such great friends.

My flight was actually really good – impressive for someone who does not like to fly! The landing in Washington, D.C.  was the smoothest I’ve ever experienced. The airport, on the other hand, left a little to be desired! The other terminals were nicer, but the Northwest terminal was reminiscent of our old international terminal here in Detroit. Blech. But, of course, I wasn’t there to hang in the airport, so who cares, right? I met up with my cousin flying in from New Hampshire and her sister (the bride-to-be) picked us up.

After meeting up with a couple other of the ladies, we headed out toward the lake. Holy freaking traffic!! Apparently the thing to do is leave the city on Friday afternoon for a variety of places south. CRAZY traffic. I mean, we have bad traffic around here, but this was for miles and miles and miles. No thank you! We hopped on the HOV and cruised along pretty well for quite a while, but traffic still was crazy. (Side note: the HOV? Freaky – same lanes goes one way in the morning and the other in the evening – YIPE!)

We arrived at the lake house over 2 hours later – it was  GORGEOUS!  The house is right on the lake and is huge.  Our hostesses were fabulous and totally spoiled us all weekend.  The first night we had some snacks and wine on the dock and went for a boat ride.  Nicole opened presents and we all acted like girls at a slumber party, laughing and drinking and taking pictures and eating pizza.

Saturday we all went down to the dock to lay out in the sun and play in the lake.  A couple boat rides, some swimming, some jet ski-ing and a lot of trashy gossip magazines later and the day was over! It was so relaxing and fun!  We laughed a lot and I really enjoyed getting to know my cousin’s friends (and other bridesmaids!).  It will be nice to go to the wedding already knowing them.  🙂

I did feel old – even though we’re all about the same age – they’ve all been or are getting married with the year; I’ve been married for 12!!  Michelle and I were the only ones with longer marriages and kids.  It was kind of cool to see them all in the beginning stages – such a fun & exciting time.

So I’m home now.  The boys looked so good when I got in the car and I swear they grew while I was away!!
