The Zoo!

We packed up the boys and headed to the Toledo Zoo today – I was so excited! The boys were, too. It was so fun to see and hear the excitement in their faces and voices. Yippeee!! The Zoo!! Horrible parents as we are, P has never been to the zoo and it’s been a long time since Matt has been. So after some quick stops (why is it always so hard to get out of town when you really want to?!), we hit the road. It was pretty busy already when we got there, but we were ready to go see some animals! Unfortunately, the line to see the Polar Bear Cubs was pretty long and non-moving, so we skipped that and checked out the not-so-famous animals. 🙂 Matt got tired really quick, which was odd, since he slept in this morning and was in the stroller the whole time, but alas, he did get cranky and tired.

{Don’t you hate it when you’re super-excited about something for your kids and they just aren’t as into it as you are? I mean, really, the ZOO!! }

Matt did rebound after some ice cream, but then it was time to go home, as we had seen it all (well, except the polar bear cubs. And the Butterflies…). We did make a return trip to watch the baby monkey swing and jump and play with his mama, but while Preston and I were totally thrilled and smitten with those silly primates, Matt was less than enthused. Is it possible they were slightly scary to him or just less than exciting or more thrilling in books and on tv? I do not know, but I was a little sad he wasn’t into it as much as I thought he would be. Thankfully, Preston was excited and happy and talkative!  I posted some pictures under the Zoo Pics tab here. (look up)

Oh, and here is a mama primate and her baby hanging on her (he jumped right on, mid-air)…

zoo4.jpg … notice any similarities between that pic and this one of me and my boys? :D  zoo5.jpg

By the time we got home, we were all beat. Unbelievably, the boys did not sleep on the way home! And then stayed up later than expected. Very odd, my boys, when it comes to sleep. Very odd.

The house is a disaster, we had carryout for dinner and had to turn on the air conditioner even though the weather is PERFECT for sleeping because of the overzealous fireworks freaks. I had big ideas of things I wanted to do today when we got home. Instead, I started about 3 projects, flopped on the chair and finished my book (3rd one in 3 days. I’m not going to have any left for my weekend away!).

And now I am lounging, once again, in my comfy chair, watching Cast Away. A movie that makes me tear up every time I see it – you know, when he finally gets home and his whole life is different? That quiet desperation, that profound loss, the depth of love…I just need to know one thing though:

What the hell was in that box with the wings on it???!!

😀

Tomorrow shall bring a clean house, finished laundry, painted trim in P’s room and maybe cleaner carpet. Oh, and a non-tornado struck playroom. Wish me luck!

Hey! We were at the zoo the day after!! Know what you mean about the excitement factor. Punkin pie was not that excited when we went the other day. I think it was too crowded for him- we go during the week usually. Glad you had fun anyway!
