What’s in a name?

Her Bad Mother wrote a lovely post about her daughter’s nickname and what it means to her. Since she tagged everyone who reads her blog, I thought I’d better jump right on this one! 😀

I know a lot of people don’t call their kids anything but their given name, but we’re not those people. 🙂 We actually have to remind ourselves to use their “real” names every once in a while!

Preston has a bunch of nicknames, but most often used is Goog. (Like Google without the -le). He started out as Peanut, then Peanuty Goodness, then P, then P-Goodness (notice anything familiar there?), somehow we turned that into Goog. Googstar. Googstar airlines. Googster. P-goog. Googstarana. Googalicious. Great Googly Moogly.

Well, you get the idea. Preston is Goog.

Matthew has also had a lot of nicknames. When he was first born he was bean. And then squirmy wormy. But the one that has stuck since he was a few months old is Shooey. The reason is simple – when Mike would lean over him and make noises, the “shhoooooeeeee” sound always made him smile and laugh. So Shooey was born. The Shoo. Shooster. Shooby Dooby Doo. Shoo-Shoo.

Now that he’s older he’s been making up his own names. Last week he was Cushion-Maker Matthew. Before that, he was Super Matthew.

But he’ll always be Shoo to his dad and me. Even a few weeks ago when he said he wasn’t the Shoo anymore and we looked at each other with shock (and tears threatening to jump to my eyes), we knew he would always be the Shoo.

And he is.  Matthew is The Shoo.

That is so funny…..that\'s what we call Gracie. Goog. Which is short for Googie. Which is short for Gracie-goo. Thanks for sharing this. This would be a fun thing for me to do to take my mind off of things. I wanted to also thank you for stopping by and your kind words.
