Just for the record, whoever it was out there in bloggy land that recommended this book….next time WARN ME!  Book recommendations should come with Kleenex warnings.  GEEZ!

So, obviously, the book is The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.  I wasn’t sure about it at first. The premise of a man travelling involuntarily through time seemed like it would be more a fantasy type book.  Happily, it wasn’t.  It was an unbelievable romance from the beginning. The story of Henry and Clare was touching and wonderful and sad and scary and addictive.  The author tells the story from the perspectives of both Clare and Henry, which is a nice method for this kind of story.  A few times I had to go back and double-check the dates and ages of the characters, but I found it to be a relatively easy read and very enjoyable (the author notes the ages and dates at the beginning of each “chapter” so you know what’s going on).  The reader generally follows the time-line of Clare, as it is Henry who jumps around a bit. Of course, I can’t tell you a whole lot about it, but it was very emotionally charged and I literally found myself crying through the last 50 or so pages.  More than about time travel, it’s about love and faith and endurance.
I think it’s probably one of those love it or hate it books.  I can see where people could have an issue with their suspension of disbelief, but I would certainly urge everyone to give it a try.  It’s certainly worth it in the end.
