I’m an idiot

No song title tonight, just me…stupid stupid me. Don’t go all pity-party on me or anything, I’m just telling you the truth (FYI: Matt would totally scream you can’t handle the truth! [line from A Few Good Men] right now!). Honestly. It’s one thing to do stupid things, and totally another to just be stupid. <waving> HI! I’m an idiot!!

You may be wondering why on earth I’m calling myself such lovely names. Well, here’s the story. I own a business. I used to be pretty good at it. These days, my priorities have changed a bit (read: who the hell has time to properly run a business with 2 young kids and a babysitter only one day a week!?!) Since many a change have happened over the past year, I’ve slacked off on things I thought I could get away with:

  • Not being in the office as much… Verdict: Not too big of a deal
  • Not having as many staff meetings… Verdict: staff happier without, less time with me stressing about their reactions and issues
  • Not balancing my checkbook…for an entire year…Verdict: BLEEPING IDIOT!!!

Who the hell does that? It’s a business for crying out loud. Money always coming in and lots more going out. Taxes, bills, more bills, etc. I. Am. An. Idiot. So of course, it’s come back to haunt me. I’ve literally spent hours upon hours trying to figure out why the bank and I have totally different amounts. I compared a year’s worth of statements to a year’s worth of transactions. Fixed what I needed to. Done, right? NO. Still no match. My guess is that my errors probably go back years, because? All together now: IDIOT!

So, I spent 3 hours at the office tonight, trying to at least get my year end tax stuff ready for the accountant. Is my bank account looking any better? No, not really at all. SO, in another day or so, I shall start fresh. New files, new banking, new priority, new new new. No more downloading transactions from the bank online (I think that realllllly screwed me up at the end of the year), and much more paying attention. I need to prioritize running my office (and I don’t mean into the ground!). Time to suck it up and be an adult, right? I am going to start scheduling myself some work at home time, so that I can spend my one day a week in the office being the most efficient and constructive that I can. Pick a night, work a couple of hours, do it right. Because I can. Because I have to. Because I don’t want to be an idiot anymore!!

I can totally relate to playing catch up with the business stuff! I did that for the past 2 years and that\'s why I\'ve had to file extensions each year. I\'m on the ball this year. I had to wait for Chris to get his W2 and then another document for interest paid. I\'ll be dropping stuff off to the accountant early this week. Good luck with all of your stuff, girl!
