Weekend in a nutshell

What the heck does that mean, anyway? I mean, a nutshell is so tiny you couldn't even fit this many words in it… 😀

So, Saturday consisted of going to the pet supply store and beginnng our collection of new junk for the puppy. Did I tell you we're getting a puppy? Well, for whatever reason (apparently the vast number of drugs we do on a daily basis), we've decided our 11 year old mutt needs a companion. After much research, Mike has chosen a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Beautiful, smart, fantastic family dogs. He was going to surprise me, but given that it is such a huge, life long commitment, he thought it would be best to get my opinion. I'm excited! A puppy is going to be a lot of work, but I am excited to have such a trainable companion. 🙂 Anyway, we're going to check them out this weekend. There are very few breeders in this state, and it's our luck the closest one is like 2 hours away. Oy. If all goes well this weekend, we'll be able to bring him (or her) home in 2 weeks! If you have any dog name ideas, please let me know!! And then we went to get my hair cut. On a whim, spur of the moment (and only because they were waiting in the car) we got Preston's hair cut, too! He had this crazy, curly, funky hair thing going on – like enough hair for a mohawk on top and huge curly pieces over his ears that wouldn't comb back for anything! So, we got it cut. He looks so big now! And a lot like his big brother at that age. I'll try to get some pictures up soon, but I honestly don't feel for it at this moment.  😛

After that, we left Mike at home for his Father's Day Alone Time and went to my mom's. The boys played and wore themselves out (I thought) and then we had dinner. Matt was hilarious, running all over the place (don't judge, we were one of two customers at this family diner!).  Preston made a huge disaster eating pancakes. Fun day.

Today we went to my cousin's daughter's 1st birthday party. It was a luau theme, so that was pretty fun. Their house is so cool (but far away!) and it seems to fit them perfectly. The boys had a good time – Matt was blowing bubbles, sprinting around, and basically being his silly, adorable self.  Always nice to spend time with the fam. We even got a family picture taken – I think the last one was 2 years ago at a wedding, and probably 3 years prior to that! On my dad's side, we do it EVERY YEAR at Christmas. Nice but annoying.

In other news, I quickly fell off the wagon and slid under the wheels this week. Needless to say, I shall begin again tomorrow.
